Even among the coastally blessed Canary Islands, Fuerteventura’s beaches are renowned for their length, beauty and the quality of both the sand — which comes in a range of tones from white to black — and the water. As foundations for an all-inclusive break, they’re pretty perfect — just pop a hotel on top. Fuerteventura’s all-inclusive hotels are mostly found along the calmer east coast of the island, and with the need to be able to walk to a resort centre reduced, you can find options that have long stretches of sand almost to themselves.
However, there are also all-inclusives close to the centre of the resorts — up-tempo Corralejo, mid-sized Caleta de Fuste, small-scale Costa Calma and the Jandia strip, which stretches along the southernmost extent of the island. There’s a healthy crop of both family-friendly and adult-only hotels, and while you’ll find both luxury and budget choices, the island majors on the middle ground — good quality yet affordable medium-sized hotels. While some properties are selectively all-inclusive, many offer the board basis as an option alongside others, so it’s worth checking whether you’ll need to wear a wristband if that’s a dealbreaker for you.

4. Hotel Riu Oliva Beach, Corralejo
Best for value stays
With more than 800 rooms, this rather dated-looking hotel is a whopper, but economies of scale mean you get enormous bang for your buck, and there is room to spread out. An enviable plot puts guests right on the golden sands of Grandes Playas beach, plus there are two main pools and a children’s pool within the large gardens. As well as a kids’ club for four to 12-year-olds there are organised activities for adults too, including fitness classes, art activities and evening entertainment — the disco stays open late with drinks served until 2am. Alongside two buffet restaurants are an Asian and a Canarian choice included in the package.

The hotel’s vast René Egli centre offers rentals and lessons for all levels of experience, at an extra charge. When you’re done with water sports there’s a palm-lined swimming pool, tennis courts and a kids’ club. Rooms are smart but simple, with interconnecting options. 8. Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace, Jandia
Best for beachside style
Pale tones, clean lines and blonde wood give this rather luxurious hotel a modern, understated atmosphere. Its curvaceous façade fronts directly on to a long sandy beach, or there are four outdoor pools with loungers and Bali beds to relax around — one is exclusively for Star Prestige guests who receive extra VIP touches including the best room locations and a private lounge. There are also swim-up rooms available, with direct access from the terrace into a shared pool. While it’s not adult-only there are no kids’ facilities and the vibe is grown-up, from the rooftop teppanyaki restaurant to the rather space-age looking spa.

10. Pierre et Vacances Resort Fuerteventura Origo Mare, Lajares
Best for energetic teens
An on-site waterpark with large slides, a wave pool and a climbing wall; a games room with a pool table and video games; tennis courts, a mini golf course and a dedicated teens’ club mean this vast holiday village has a lot to offer families with older kids. Villa accommodation is basic but spacious, with room for up to seven in the three-bedroom units. The trade-off is location — set out on its own in a remote spot at the north of the island. A sandy beach is 20 minutes away in Corralejo, but the hotel lays on a daily shuttle if you’d rather not hire a car.

Best for occasional golfers
The name says it all. Set between a sandy beach and two 18-hole golf courses, this medium-sized hotel makes it easy to fit in the odd round without sacrificing family time. While you tee off they’ll find plenty to do with two giant pools — the adults’ number has a hot tub and the children’s one has slides — a sports court, mini golf and a kids’ club. The all-inclusive package covers the buffet restaurant and one visit to the à la carte Italian per week. Doubles sleep four at a push, but for more space choose a suite or interconnecting rooms.

12. Sol Fuerteventura Jandia, Jandia
Best for family suites
Plenty of family rooms claim to sleep four, but if you don’t want to be cramped this all-suite hotel a few minutes’ walk from the glorious sandy beach at Morro Jable in the island’s south gives you space in spades. With a modern, minimalist look, the suites come with large terraces or balconies, and some have direct access to the pool. Alongside the main pool there’s a kids’ pool, club and play area, and you can eat at either the buffet restaurant or the pool bar. The atmosphere here is relaxed rather than up-tempo, suited to those looking for a chilled-out break.

13. H10 Tindaya, Costa Calma
Best for action and exploration
One holidaymaker’s relaxed is another’s boring, and if you like days filled with fun then this medium-sized hotel at the southern end of Costa Calma beach is perfect. Not simply because of the sheer volume of on-site activities, which run the gamut from table tennis and pistol shooting to a playground and pool with a pirate ship, but because the free parking means you’ve got somewhere easy and convenient to leave a hire car, so you can explore the many sights of the island. Plus, the good-value price point means you won’t mind buying the odd lunch while out and about. Back at the hotel, there’s an American diner as well as the buffet restaurant.

14. R2 Romantic Fantasia Suites, Tarajalejo
Best for tranquil stays
Tourism in the quiet fishing town of Tarajalejo is in its infancy, so the dark volcanic sand beach is usually crowd-free. This small, adult-only hotel with just 107 rooms and suites is set in pretty gardens that are dotted with six relaxing hot tubs and a lagoon-style pool. Guests can use the facilities of the sister hotel next door, which include a gym, sports and a spa, but the chief selling point of this property is its peaceful ambience. The buffet restaurant is also located in the sister hotel, accessed via a short walkway, but as it’s also child-free your sense of calm won’t be shattered.
